TBX6573 Radar Transmitter Test Bench

This stand-alone test system is intended for verifying the operation of the APG-65/APG-73 Radar Transmitter Unit as well as two of its internal modules, 1A5 Power Converter and 1A8 Switching Regulator. Thanks to its extensive computer control, the equipment can also be used for quick and efficient fault isolation. The main advantage is that no other radar units are needed for testing the transmitter. The transmitter acceptance tests can be performed with minimal operator intervention.

Test System Hardware

The system is implemented as a wheeled equipment rack with a countertop for easy transportation and operation.
The main parts of the unit are:
- VXI Unit
- Switching Unit
- DCPower Supply
- Wave Guides
- Cooling Oil and Nitrogen Pipes
- Module Test Unit
- Load Unit
The transmitter unit and the modules are installed into a holding fixture on top of the equipment rack. There is also a space provisioning for a monitor display, keyboard and a mouse. The measuring equipment are controlled through VXI bus or GPIB interface by an integrated industrial PC.

Product Highlights

The pulse sequences can be programmed as in the radar exciter. This feature is useful in troubleshooting a failure that generates an intermittent BIT code in the radar system. Since the duration of a single BIT test is very short compared with the total duration of the radar system BIT sequence, the probability of hitting an intermittent failure is often low. Therefore, TBX6573 is capable of repeating the pulse sequences of any single test of the BIT. Another special feature of the bench is the capability to measure the limitation power of the multipactor. All automatic test functions can be safely performed even by a novice technician. Manual and special functions require an experienced technician or an engineer.
